Clark Joins Select AU Volleyball Club In Crossover Win

THE TURNING POINT: After losing the first set 25-22, Ashland had a hitting percentage of .400 in set No. 2 en route to tying the match.

STAT OF THE DAY: Senior outside hitter Casey Clark became the second player in Ashland volleyball history with 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.

It was a pretty good night for Ashland University's volleyball team – a win and some history.

In its second match of the day on Friday (Oct. 14) at the 2016 Mizuno Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover in Aurora, Ill., the Eagles took a 3-1 (22-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-23) decision from Illinois-Springfield. Ashland is 12-8, while UIS is 5-14.

During the victory, senior outside hitter Casey Clark became the second player in Ashland volleyball history with 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs, joining Mary Kate Glowe. Clark finished the match with 18 kills and 16 digs for her second double-double of the day.

After losing the first set 25-22, Ashland knotted the match with a win in the second set. In set No. 3, the Eagles trailed 16-13 before going on a 12-3 run to take a 2-1 advantage.

Freshman outside hitter Shelby Woycik paced the Ashland offense with 19 kills, while senior outside hitter Alli Cudworth added 17 kills and 11 digs for her second double-double of the Crossover.

For the second time on Friday, sophomore Kayla Pfeiffer (35) and senior Mallory Slyder (17) split setting duties.

UP NEXT: The third and final match at the Midwest Crossover on Saturday (Oct. 15) at 2 p.m. Eastern vs. Missouri S&T.
