Ashland University head volleyball coach Cass Dixon has been named the athletic department's Assistant Athletic Director/Senior Women's Administrator, as announced by Director of Athletics Al King on Friday (June 2).
"I'm delighted that Cass has accepted the offer to be our Senior Women's Administrator," King said. "Cass has a great deal of experience as a coach. At this stage in her career, she's interested in getting a closer look at athletic administration. We're happy to provide her with that opportunity."
Said Dixon, "I'm excited about the new responsibilities, and I'm appreciative of the confidence Al has in me to continue to be able to coach, but then also add in some new challenges of working with our women's programs and our female student-athletes.
"I have a good knowledge of what the volleyball student-athletes go through every day, but I will get to see it from a different perspective, from their sports and what their challenges are as students and athletes."
As Ashland's Assistant AD/SWA, Dixon replaces Sheilah Gulas, who recently retired after 21 years as the Eagles' head softball coach and who spent the last two academic years as SWA.
In her new roles, Dixon will attend GLIAC Management Council meetings and be involved in numerous on-campus committees. She also will represent the athletic department at selected postseason events.
Dixon enters her seventh season as Ashland's head volleyball coach. She has a 117-67 (.636) record guiding the Eagles, a period which includes three trips to the NCAA Division II postseason, five berths in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament and two GLIAC South Division titles.
Dixon was named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 2013.
"One of my goals is to do more to emphasize this position and get it more involved in the everyday operation of the athletic department," King said. "The SWA is a valuable part of athletic departments around the country, and I want to accent it as much as possible. I believe Cass can bring some new and interesting ideas and perspectives to this post. I'm looking forward to working with her. I think she can help our student-athletes in a variety of ways."
