Lakers Drop Eagles in Straight Sets on Saturday

The Ashland University volleyball team dropped a straight-set match to visiting Grand Valley State, 25-14, 25-19, 25-13, on Saturday (Oct. 28) afternoon at Kates Gymnasium.

The Eagles (13-11, 6-7 GLIAC) were not able to get on track as the Lakers (14-10, 9-4 GLIAC) hit .327 while holding AU to a .067 mark. Grand Valley State kept Ashland under .100 hitting in each set.

Sophomore Shelby Woycik led the Eagles with nine kills (.231) to go with five digs. Junior Reanne Neal chipped in five kills (.154) and two blocks.

Freshman Kali Apelt dished out 17 assists with six digs and two aces. Freshman McKinley Smith led the back row with 11 digs.

Jayci Suseland recorded 13 kills (.458) while Sydney Doby added 12 kills (.500) for the Lakers. Staci Brower had nine kills (.500) with tfive blocks and two of GVSU's six aces.

The Eagles will look to bounce back next weekend, beginning Friday (Nov. 3) at Purdue Northwest. First serve is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
