Eagles To Close Home Season Tuesday Against Findlay

The Ashland University volleyball team will hit the Kates Gymnasium court for the final time on Tuesday (Nov. 7) when the Eagles welcome Findlay for a nonconference match at 7 p.m.

The Eagles (14-12) enter the match having split their two matches over the weekend at Purdue Northwest and Davenport. Ashland took care of the Pride in straight sets and forced a fifth set with the Panthers, but ultimately dropped the match.

Sophomore Shelby Woycik led the Eagles with 36 kills on the weekend while hitting .260. She pounded 17 kills against just two errors in the sweep over PNW and registered her 13th double-double with 10 digs. The Eagles had four players in that match with at least 10 digs, led by freshman Zoie Franklin, who had 13. Franklin added a career-high 17 digs the following day at Davenport.

Redshirt-sophomore Michaela Ping had 27 kills over the weekend, getting 15 in the win over the Pride. She hit .591 in the match with just two errors on 22 attacks. Ashland hit .333 overall, its highest rate since hitting .337 against PNW in the teams' first matchup in September.

Freshman setter Kali Apelt posted a pair of double-doubles last week, combining for 93 assists and 29 digs.

Findlay (24-4) has won eight straight matches and are coming off a 3-0 sweep of Trevecca Nazarene on Monday. The Oilers are holding onto the eighth and final spot in the NCAA Midwest Regional rankings.

Last season, the Eagles and Oilers split a pair of matches when both were members of the GLIAC. Each team won on its home floor.

The Eagles will close the regular season on Saturday (Nov. 11) with a 2 p.m. match at Tiffin that will have an impact on the Eagles' GLIAC Tournament bid chances.
