Eagles Qualify For GLIAC Tournament Despite Defeat at Tiffin

The Ashland University volleyball team finished the regular season on Saturday (Nov. 11) afternoon, falling to Tiffin in three sets, 25-23, 25-23, 25-13, at the Gillmor Center.

The Eagles (14-14, 7-9 GLIAC) earned the No. 8 seed in the GLIAC Tournament and will play the top seed Ferris State on Wednesday (Nov. 15) in Big Rapids, Mich. in the quarterfinal round.

Ashland held a 23-20 lead in the first set, but the Dragons (20-12, 10-6 GLIAC) scored the final five points to get the win. In the second frame, the Eagles led, 23-18, but Tiffin again rallied from behind to take a two-set lead. Tiffin hit .375 in the third set to put away the Eagles.

Sophomore Sophi Cudworth led the Eagles offensively, finishing with 11 kills (.115). Junior Reanne Neal and redshirt-sophomore Michaela Ping each finished with 10 kills as the Eagles hit .210 in the match.

Freshman Kali Apelt dished out 42 assists and tacked on eight digs. Freshman McKinley Smith finished with a team-high 16 digs and senior Melanie Aguayo added 10.

Jenna Huffman led Tiffin with 15 kills (.424). The Dragons hit .294 overall and finished with 12 total blocks.

Match time on Wednesday has not yet been announced.
