#20 Bulldogs End Ashland's Season in GLIAC Tournament

The Ashland University volleyball team saw its season come to an end on Wednesday (Nov. 15) night as top-seeded and 20th-ranked Ferris State defeated the No. 8-seed Eagles in straight sets, 25-16, 25-17, 25-20, in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal in Big Rapids, Mich.

The Eagles (14-15) – playing without the GLIAC leader in kills per set, sophomore Shelby Woycik, who missed the final two matches with an injury – were not able to keep up with the Bulldogs (21-7), who hit .361 for the match.

Ferris State exacted a measure of revenge against the Eagles, who came back from a set down to beat the nationally-ranked Bulldogs in five sets at Kates Gymnasium last month.

On Wednesday, though, the Eagles could not able to come up with the firepower to match Ferris State.

The Eagles got 10 kills (.364) and two blocks from junior Reanne Neal to lead the offense. Freshman Zoie Franklin added six kills (.167) and a team-high 11 digs while sophomore Sophi Cudworth also posted six kills (.048).

Freshman Ellie Jensen and redshirt-sophomore Michaela Ping chipped in five kills apiece while freshman Kali Apelt  dished out 21 assists.

Newly-crowned GLIAC Player of the Year Allyson Cappel led the Bulldogs with 14 kills (.407) and 16 digs. Ayanna Buckley had 10 kills and six blocks.

The Bullodgs advanced to the GLIAC Tournament semifinal this weekend and will serve as the tournament host.
