Three Ashland University volleyball players were selected to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams the league office announced on Saturday (Nov. 18) afternoon during the GLIAC Tournament in Big Rapids, Mich.
Sophomore outside hitter Shelby Woycik was named to the first team, junior middle Reanne Neal was a second team choice and redshirt-sophomore middle Michaela Ping was named to the honorable mention list.
Woycik leads the GLIAC with 3.87 kills per set and ranks second in the conference in total kills with 383. She also ranked second on the team with 278 digs and 2.81 digs per set. Woycik hit .220 on the season and was fourth on the team with 42 blocks.
She set a career-high with 26 kills and hit .411 in a four-set win over Lake Erie on Sept. 2. Woycik also racked up 15 double-doubles on the season and won GLIAC South Player of the Week honors twice this season.
Neal ranks third in the GLIAC in blocks per set (1.11) and is fourth in the conference with 117 total blocks. She ranked second on the team with 212 kills and hit .279 on the season. Neal hit double-digit kills nine times and had a double-double on Oct. 27 with 11 kills and 10 blocks against Wayne State.
Ping ranked third on the team with 203 kills and hit .246 on the year. She also ranked second on the squad with 83 blocks.
Ferris State's Allyson Cappel was named the GLIAC Player and Attacker of the Year while Northern Michigan's Kayla Chosa was picked as the Blocker of the Year. The Freshman and Setter of the Year was Michigan Tech's Laura DeMarchi and Tiffin's Taylor Lattimore was picked as the Libero of the Year. Matt Jennings of Michigan Tech was tabbed as the Coach of the Year.
