Ashland University volleyball head coach Kevin Foeman announced Friday (July 6) the addition of Sidney Fletcher as the program's assistant coach.
Fletcher played for four seasons at Lake Erie, the last three under Foeman's direction as the Storm leaped from three wins in Fletcher's freshman season to 26 last season when she was a senior. Fletcher was among the winningest senior class in Lake Erie history.
"I knew I wanted to bring in Sidney as soon as I was offered this job," said Foeman, who is entering his first season guiding the Eagles. "She knows everything there is to know about my system and style of coaching. She will be a perfect fit for this program and I am excited to see what she can do in the next few years in this role."
"I'm really excited to stay with Coach Foeman and that he's giving me the opportunity to be a coach," Fletcher said. "It's my first time coaching, so I'm excited for that. Working with him in the spring, I know his coaching philosophies and styles."
Fletcher was a two-time all-conference appointee, once as a member of the GLIAC in 2016, then in the G-MAC as a senior. She totaled 1,635 digs, 309 assists and 113 aces in her career as a libero. Five times she recorded 30 digs in a match.
"Sidney was a hard-nosed, blue-collar player who worked on her craft 365 days a year to become one of the premier defensive players in the country her last two years," Foeman said. "She is a no excuses type individual who will bring her knowledge and appreciation for the game to our team at Ashland. I am excited to see what she can do in the gym with our defense and passing, and her work ethic will do wonders behind the scenes."
"Before Coach Foeman got (to Lake Erie), I wasn't even half the defensive player I became, so I know the system we will run works. I believe I can help our players create their own identity with the defense," said Fletcher.
Fletcher earned her bachelor's degree from Lake Erie with a double major in business administration and marketing.
