Woycik Wins GLIAC South Player of the Week Honors

Ashland University junior outside hitter Shelby Woycik was announced as the GLIAC South Player of the Week by the league office on Monday (Aug. 27) morning.

It is the third career GLIAC Player of the Week award for Woycik, who also won the inaugural award last season. In fact, an AU player has won the last four Week 1 GLIAC South weekly awards.

Woycik was a force for the Eagles, who won all four matches at the Ashland Invitational last weekend at Kates Gymnasium. She led the squad with 54 kills (3.60 per set) while hitting .224. Woycik also tallied 54 digs and registered a double-double in all four matches.

She had five aces and eight blocks on the weekend.

Among GLIAC players, she ranks third in kills (54) and fourth in points per set (4.2). Last season, Woycik was an All-GLIAC first team selection.

The Eagles will take their unbeaten record into the Findlay Classic, which starts on Friday (Aug. 31). Ashland will play four in-region matches against Missouri-St. Louis, Hillsdale, Ohio Valley and Findlay at the event.
