Ashland Runs Winning Streak To Five With Sweep

The Ashland University volleyball team opened the season on a seven-match winning streak, and since losing two in a row in five sets, the Eagles have now run off wins in their last five matches.

The latest came Saturday (Sept. 15) afternoon at Kates Gymnasium as the Eagles trounced Lake Superior State, 25-13, 25-17, 25-12.

The Eagles (12-2, 5-0 GLIAC) remained undefeated in GLIAC play and are now 8-0 at Kates Gymnasium this season.

Ashland was efficient offensively and dominant defensively on Saturday, hitting over .260 in each of the three sets and holding the Lakers (1-12, 0-5 GLIAC) to a .035 mark overall. 

Junior Shelby Woycik led the Eagles with 16 kills (.500) against just one error on 30 swings. She also matched a team-high with 15 digs for a double-double.

Freshman setter Zoey Peck kept the offense flowing with 32 assists and helping the Eagles hit .275 as a team. Redshirt-junior Michaela Ping chipped in nine kills (.304) and senior Reanne Neal and junior Sophi Cudworth added five kills apiece. 

Freshman Erin Krupar totaled 15 digs and senior libero Kaitlin Bean added 13 digs. Sophomore Ellie Jensen had three kills in the third set.

Ashland held an 8-4 edge in blocks, led by Neal's five.

The Eagles will now hit the road to play Purdue Northwest next Friday (Sept. 21). First serve is set for 8 p.m. ET.
