To begin its first road weekend of 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, Ashland University's volleyball team swept past Purdue Northwest, 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-22) on Friday (Sept. 21) night.

Thanks to their sixth consecutive victory, the Eagles move to 13-2 overall and 6-0 in the GLIAC. Ashland maintains the top spot in the GLIAC South Division, and remains one of two teams to be undefeated in league play, along with Ferris State.

The Pride is 1-13, 0-6.

Ashland's chance at a fifth sweep this fall was kept alive in set No. 2, after PNW had a 20-16 lead. The Eagles, thanks in part to three kills from junior outside hitter Shelby Woycik, scored nine of the set's final 11 points.

Woycik, the defending GLIAC South Player of the Week, had almost half of Ashland's kills on the night (18 of 38), while hitting at a .438 clip and adding two service aces, eight digs and two block assists. Freshman setter Zoey Peck set up 30 of those Eagles kills, while senior libero Kaitlin Bean paced the back line with 13 digs.

Purdue Northwest, on the other hand, hit .082 as a team. The Eagles have kept three consecutive opponents to a hitting percentage of less than .100.

Ashland's 15-match start is its best since beginning 13-2 in 2012.

The Eagles will finish the short two-match road trip on Saturday (Sept. 22) at 3 p.m. at Parkside.
