Eagles Dominant Again in Eighth Straight Win

The Ashland University volleyball team continued its hot streak on Friday (Sept. 28), sweeping visiting Northern Michigan, 25-23, 25-13, 25-22, at Kates Gymnasium.

The Eagles (15-2, 8-0 GLIAC) remained undefeated in conference play and at Kates Gymnasium (9-0). Ashland has won its last 15 sets and the last four matches have been won in sweeps. The last time the Eagles swept at least four straight matches was in 2013 when they won five in a row by a 3-0 margin. 

On Friday, the Eagles were dominant offensively as they hit .315 as a team and freshman setter Zoey Peck distributed among AU's athletic hitters.

Freshman Erin Krupar led the Eagles with 14 kills (.300) and 14 digs for a double-double. Senior Reanne Neal and junior Sophi Cudworth had 11 kills each and combined to hit .486 in the match.

Junior Shelby Woycik chipped in eight kills and nine digs while redshirt-junior Michaela Ping added six kills (.455).

Defensively, the Eagles held the Wildcats to a .192 hitting percentage and finished with seven blocks as a team. Senior libero Kaitlin Bean led the back row with 15 digs.

Leticia Antunes paced the Wildcats (10-6, 2-6 GLIAC) with eight kills (.129).

The Eagles, who now lead the GLIAC South by four games, will resume conference play on Saturday (Sept. 29) when they play host to Michigan Tech (13-3, 7-1 GLIAC). First serve at Kates Gymnasium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
