Cudworth Wins First GLIAC South Player of the Week Honor

Junior outside hitter Sophi Cudworth was named the GLIAC South Player of the Week the conference office announced on Monday (Oct. 8) morning.

The Eagles have now won four of the seven conference weekly awards this season as junior Shelby Woycik picked up three for the Eagles earlier this season. This is Cudworth's first career weekly honor.

Cudworth tied for the team lead in kills last week, averaging 3.75 kills per set while hitting .338. She also racked up 10 blocks as the Eagles swept Northwood on Friday before falling in five sets to No. 6 Ferris State.

Against the Timberwolves, Cudworth put down nine kills and hit .389 to go with a career-high eight blocks.

The next day, she posted a career-high 21 kills while hitting .319 in a narrow five-set defeat to the Bulldogs in Big Rapids. She had two blocks in the match.

Cudworth currently ranks sixth in the GLIAC with a .299 hitting percentage and is third on the team with 207 kills on the season.

The Eagles (16-4) head to the Midwest Region Crossover in Indianapolis this week and will play matches against Illinois Springfield (Friday, 11:30 a.m.), McKendree (Friday, 5:30 p.m.) and Hillsdale (Saturday, 1 p.m.)
