Eagles Finish Crossover With 3-1 Win Over Hillsdale

The Ashland University volleyball team finished the Midwest Region Crossover with a 2-1 record after beating the G-MAC's top seed Hillsdale, 25-20, 20-25, 25-23, 25-23, on Saturday (Oct. 13) at The Academy Volleyball Club.

The Eagles (18-5) will now hit the road for their next four matches before finishing the regular season with four at Kates Gymnasium.

On Saturday, the Eagles got an exceptional performance from freshman Erin Krupar, who finished with a career-high 19 kills (.275) and added 14 digs for a double-double. Senior libero Kaitlin Bean also approached her school record in digs with 29.

The Eagles won the first set by a 25-20 margin by going on a 6-1 run to close the frame. After the score was knotted at 19, Krupar had three kills in the closing stretch to help seal the win.

Hillsdale (15-5) never trailed in the second set to even the match before Ashland held on for a 25-23 win in Set 3. The fourth set was tied at 23, but the Eagles finished it with a kill by junior Shelby Woycik and a Hillsdale attacking error.

Woycik had 14 kills (.263) and 17 digs while senior Reanne Neal and redshirt-junior Michaela Ping added 11 kills each.

The Eagles out-hit the Chargers, .267 to .227 and led in blocks, 8-6.

The Eagles will now head to Grand Valley State on Friday (Oct. 19) at 7 p.m.
