Ashland University setter Zoey Peck was named the AVCA Division II Midwest Region Freshman of the Year the organization announced on Wednesday (Nov. 21).
Peck became the third player in program history to earn that distinction after Lynsey Warren in 2004 and Brittany Snider in 2009.
The Homeworth, Ohio native led the GLIAC in assists this season with 1,345 and played every point for the Eagles as the team's lone healthy setter. Her total is the fifth-highest in program history and the most since Shelly DeHenning had 1,354 in 2013.
Peck helped Ashland finish second in the GLIAC in hitting percentage (.233), just two points behind leader Michigan Tech.
The GLIAC Freshman of the Year and an all-conference second team selection, Peck racked up 15 double-doubles as a rookie and finished third on the team with 326 digs.
She set a career-high 60 assists in a five-set win over McKendree at the Midwest Region Crossover on Oct. 12 and won GLIAC South Player of the Week honors the following Monday.
For the season, she was second in the conference with 11.21 assists per set and also had 2.72 digs per set.
The Eagles (25-7) finished their first season under head coach Kevin Foeman with an NCAA Tournament berth as the Midwest Region's No. 7 seed. Ashland fell to No. 2-seed Ferris State in five sets. Their 25 wins marked an 11-win improvement from 2017.
