Eagles Complete Weekend Sweep, Topple Purdue Northwest

The Ashland University volleyball team won its seventh straight match as the Eagles dispatched host Purdue Northwest in straight sets, 25-17, 25-14, 25-12, on Saturday (Nov. 2) afternoon in Hammond, Ind

The Eagles (22-4, 11-2 GLIAC) held the Pride (3-23, 0-13 GLIAC) to a .000 hitting percentage, limiting the hosts to 23 kills and 23 hitting errors. Meanwhile, Ashland hit at a .301 clip

Senior Sophi Cudworth finished with 10 kills on just 14 attacks and only one error to finish with a .643 hitting percentage. Junior Ellie Jensen also had 10 kills (.212) to match Cudworth.

Ashland got six kills from sophomore Erin Krupar and sophomore Zoey Peck posted a double-double with 30 assists and 10 digs.

In the first set, the Eagles held a 12-10 lead and scored the next four points to take full command. Freshman Anna Krikke capped the run with a kill.

Ashland scored 12 of the first 14 points of the second set with redshirt-junior Lexi Lombardo finishing the run with a kill. AU scored the first six points of the third set and were never threatened in the third.

Junior McKinley Smith and freshman Abbey Fletcher had nine digs apiece.

Rachel Wilkening led the Pride with six kills and three blocks. Danielle Fowler had a match-high 16 digs.

The Eagles will go back on the road on Tuesday (Nov. 5) to take on Tiffin at 7 p.m. for a nonconference match.
