High School/College – Johnson was a two-time All-Ohio selection in cross country.  In 2008 he placed third at the state meet in the 3200 with a time of 9:36. In 2009 he recorded a time of 4:23 in the 1600 to claim fourth place at the state meet. His freshman year at AU he ran a PR of 25:51 in the 8K in cross country. Johnson placed 35th at the Midwest region championships in cross country with a 34:30 10K. He ran a season PR or 9:14 (3K) and at the GLIAC indoor championships he finished 16^th with a time of 15:23 in the 5000.  As a sophomore Johnson finished 23^rd at NCAA cross country regional meet with a time of 32:08(10K).   He ran 8:39 (3K) at the Kent State Tune-up. Johnson finished ninth indoors at the GLIAC Championships in the 5K (15:07).
