Cross Country Sweeps #JennaStrong Fall Classic

The Ashland University men's and women's cross country teams both registered stellar wins in the #JennaStrong Fall Classic at Wilmington College on Friday afternoon.

The Eagle men finished first among the 38 teams competing in the race, notching  just 21 points. The Miami RedHawks scored second with 95 points. Rounding out the top five were Walsh University (111), Centre College (176), and Wooster College (193).

    
If capturing the men's title wasn't impressive enough, the Eagles came across the line claiming gold, silver, and bronze. AU Senior, Brian Baum won the race in a time of 24:52 and right on his tail was junior Nick Hall who placed second. Senior Isaac Potes was scored in third place, giving the Eagles the sweep. Jacob Sussman (7th), David Knack (9th), and William Cutler (11th) also had impressive finishes for AU. It was truly a dominating performance for the Eagles.
       
The women runners were also no less than impressive. Ashland won the team title finishing with just 52 points, halving second place Cedarville who scored 104 points.
      
AU sophomore Delainey Phelps won the race with a time of 18:36, beating second place Taylor Goder, of Georgetown (KY), by six seconds. Jillian Bajaksouzian turned in a sixth place finish, and Marissa Sinko placed eighth for the Eagles. Junior, Kylee Bernthisel also had a nice run in 19th place with a time of 19:04.
     
The Eagles will next run in the Walsh 5k Invite on October 31st. The race will begin at 4:30 pm.
