Eagle Men, Women Begin 2017 At Walsh Meet

The Ashland University men's and women's cross country teams opened up the 2017 campaign on Friday (Sept. 1) at the Ric Sayre Invitational, hosted by Walsh University.

Ashland's men finished third in a six-team field, posting 63 team points. The host Cavaliers won the event with 18 points, followed by Mount Union (58) and the Eagles.

Senior Tyler Lance led the AU men's contingent, placing sixth and finishing the 8K course in a career-best 25:47.49. Sophomore Kyle Shively was next for Ashland across the finish line, ending in 11th place and in 26:03.63, also a college PR.

On the women's side, the Eagles finished fourth in a five-squad field with 102 team points. The Cavaliers took the team title with 22 points, followed by Point Park (59) and Mount Union (61).

Sophomore Johannah Stefanek paced the Ashland women's pack in an 18th-place showing in 19:37.61 on the 5K course. Junior Tiffany Pryce was 22nd in 19:55, and sophomore Haylee Zigan took 24th in 19:57.49.

UP NEXT: Ashland's men and women will compete on Sept. 15 at the Michigan State University Spartan Invitational.
