Men Fifth, Women Seventh, Two Eagles Earn All-GLIAC Honors

The Ashland University men's cross country team placed fifth of 11 teams, and the Eagle women finished seventh of 12 at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday (Oct. 21).

Men's senior Tyler Lance placed 15th of 101 8K runners in 26:07.1, and his teammate sophomore Kyle Shively got 20th with a time of 26:17.9. Both garnered all-conference honors for the first time in their career, as they landed on the second team.

Also scoring for the Eagle men with top-50 finishes were freshman Cody Booth (37th, 27:05), sophomore Tyler Sievert (49th, 37:32.9) and freshman Nathaniel Redden (50th, 27:38).

On the women's side, Emily Schumaker led the way in 39th of 104, finishing the 6K in 24:26. Not far behind was sophomore Johannah Stefanek (51st, 24:59.6), sophomore Haylee Zigan (53rd, 25:04.6), freshman Lexi Butterbaugh (62nd, 25:41.9) and junior Tiffany Pryce (63rd, 25:42.1).

With 154 points, the men were 10 back of fourth-place Ferris State and one ahead of sixth-place Davenport. Grand Valley State won the meet with 20 points.

The women's score of 227 was 60 worse than sixth-place Wayne State and three better than the Panthers. The Lakers also won the women's meet with 17 points.

Next up for AU are the Midwest Regional Championships on Nov. 4 in Cedarville, Ohio.
