Ashland University's men's and women's cross country teams completed their 2017 seasons on Saturday (Nov. 4) at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Cross Country Championships in Cedarville, Ohio.
The men's 10K race was the first as a collegian for sophomore Kyle Shively, and he was the Eagles' top placer, crossing the finish line in 33:36.8 for 83rd place individually. Senior Tyler Lance took 90th with a time of 33:48.1.
As has been the case throughout the fall, youth was served for the Eagle men. Freshman Cody Booth was 98th (33:57.6), sophomore Tyler Sievert was 131st (34:28.3), freshman Nathaniel Redden was 142nd (34:48.4), freshman Jake Hall was 146th (34:52.4) and freshman Ian Johnson was 160th (35:37.0).
As a team, Ashland's men placed 19th at the regional meet.
In Saturday's women's 6K race, junior Emily Schumaker continued her streak of finishing cross country seasons on a high note. She placed 87th in 23:51.7, and for the third season in a row, posted a season-best 6K time at the regional meet - Schumaker was 98th in 23:06.0 in 2016, and 70th in 22:45.0 in 2015.
Sophomore Johannah Stefanek placed 116th in 24:22.3, and fellow sophomore Haylee Zigan was 131st in 24:41.4, a season-best 6K showing. Rounding out the AU field were freshmen Raechal Schoenberger (147th, 25:11.2), Maureen McKeown (152nd, 25:19.1), Tracy Morgan (163rd, 25:39.8) and Lexi Butterbaugh (165th, 25:45.3).
Ashland's women finished 21st in the team regional standings.
