Eagle Men, Women Open XC Season At Michigan State

The 2018 Ashland University cross country season has begun, as the Eagle men and women ran on Friday (Sept. 14) at the Michigan State Cross Country Spartan Invitational.

In the men's 8K, Ashland finished 15th in the 21-team field (380 team points). Michigan State (55), Michigan (58) and Grand Valley State (73) went 1-2-3 in the team standings.

Individually for the Eagle men, junior Kyle Shively led the way by crossing the finish line in 26:47.4, good for 58th place. Sophomore Tyler Sievert was 89th in 27:34, while sophomore Connor Ingram took 128th place in 28:28.5. Rounding out the team scoring were junior Matt Morris (137th, 28:42.4) and sophomore Nick Reimund (139th, 28:46.2). Morris' time was an 8K PR at Ashland.

On the women's side, junior Johannah Stefanek led the Ashland effort with a 6K time of 24:15, good for both 85th place individually and a collegiate PR. Senior Emily Schumaker was 102nd in 24:42.1, freshman Abby Moser was 135th in 25:30.8, junior Haylee Zigan finished 136th in 25:33.3, and sophomore Tracy Morgan took 162nd in 26:40.7.

Ashland's men and women will return to action on Sept. 29 at the All-Ohio Championships.
