More PRs Collected By AU Men, Women At Wilmington

The meet-to-meet improvement of Ashland University's men's and women's cross country teams continued on Friday (Oct. 12) at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic at Wilmington College.

Ashland's men placed seventh in the 36-team 8K field with 246 points. Miami (Ohio) was the winner with 58 points, followed by Shawnee State with 86, and Northern Kentucky with 113.

Of the Eagle men's six PRs, three came right at the top from sophomores Tyler Sievert (24th, 25:52.0), Nathaniel Redden (34th, 26:10.8) and Connor Ingram (75th, 26:58.5). The top five was rounded out by two more sophomores – Ian Johnson (82nd, 27:03.8) and Nick Reimund (27:10.2).

Taking to the course as well for the AU men were junior Matt Morris (104th, 27:19.4, PR), sophomore Duvan Bautista-Catalan (108th, 27:22.3), freshman Matthew Long (122nd, 27:35.1, PR), sophomore Sammy Shockey (160th, 28:12.2), freshman Tristan Vaughan (184th, 28:33.4, PR), sophomores Paul Lang (213rd, 29:07.0) and Cody Tripp (219th, 29:18.4), and freshman Noah Stubenrauch (246th, 29:46.7).

Ashland's women turned in four PRs in finishing eighth in the 35-team 5K with 263 points. Ball State (48 points) won the team title, followed by Northern Kentucky (61) and Cleveland State (135).

The Eagles were paced by the trio of senior Emily Schumaker (27th, 19:00.2, PR), freshman Abby Moser (42nd, 19:28.0 in her first collegiate 5K) and sophomore Maureen McKeown (65th, 19:52.0, PR). Junior Haylee Zigan was 76th in 20:11.0, and after that, PRs also were turned in by sophomores Lexi Butterbaugh (92nd, 20:26.0) and Tracy Morgan (96th, 20:29.4).

Rounding out the AU women's field were sophomore Makayla Wagner (156th, 21:42.4), freshmen Cassandra Ponzi (159th, 21:44.7) and Taylor Anderson (214th, 22:51.7), and sophomore Raechal Schoenberger (233rd, 23:28.5).

For the first time this fall, Ashland's men and women will compete on back-to-back weekends. On Oct. 20 at 10:30 a.m., they will go to the Slippery Rock Pre-Nationals Meet in Pittsburgh, Pa.
