Eagle Men, Women Tune Up For GLIACs In Pittsburgh

In their final competition prior to the 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, Ashland University's men's and women's cross country teams competed on Saturday (Oct. 20) at the Slippery Rock Pre-National Meet in Pittsburgh, Pa.

On the men's side in an 8K race, the Eagles placed 13th of 29 teams with 455 points. Colorado Mines won the team title with 19 points, followed by Mount Olive and Queens (N.C). in a tie for second with 126 points.

The top seven runners for AU's men were junior Kyle Shively (35th, 26:29), sophomore Tyler Sievert (76th, 27:09), sophomore Nathaniel Redden (103rd, 27:29), freshman Matthew Long (153rd, 28:08), and sophomores Nick Reimund (174th, 28:23), Duvan Bautista-Catalan (177th, 28:27) and Connor Ingram (192nd, 28:47).

Also running for the Eagle men were junior Matt Morris (200th, 28:56), sophomore Ian Johnson (210th, 29:03), freshman Noah Stubenrauch (255th, 30:13), freshman Tristan Vaughan (275th, 30:54) and sophomore Paul Lang (294th, 32:56).

In the women's 6K race, Ashland placed 17th in the 30-team field with 487 points. Mines won that title as well with 37 points, followed by Walsh (91) and Hillsdale (128).

Leading the way for the Eagle women were senior Emily Schumaker (42nd, 23:55) and freshman Abby Moser (68th, 24:17, personal record). Rounding out the top seven were junior Haylee Zigan (127th, 25:27), junior Johannah Stefanek (137th, 25:36), and sophomores Lexi Butterbaugh (156th, 25:59), Tracy Morgan (162nd, 26:11) and Maureen McKeown (183rd, 26:36).

Ashland's women also were represented by freshmen Destini Oler (206th, 26:59), Cassandra Ponzi (230th, 27:40) and Taylor Anderson (272nd, 29:57), and sophomore Makayla Wagner (281st, 30:46).

Ashland's men and women will compete at the 2018 GLIAC Championships on Nov. 3 at Grand Valley State.
