Eagle Men, Women Finish 2018 At Midwest Regional

Ashland University's men's and women's cross country teams ended their 2018 seasons on Saturday (Nov. 17) at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional meet at Hayden Park on the campus of Hillsdale College.

The Eagle men placed 19th in the 32-team field with 495 team points. Grand Valley State (38 points) was the regional champion, followed by Saginaw Valley State (92) and Walsh (131).

Junior Kyle Shively turned in a collegiate 10K PR time of 33:22.6, placing 56th individually. Sophomore Tyler Sievert was right behind in 58th place, also turning in an AU 10K PR effort of 33:24.5 – more than a minute faster than his previous 10K PR.

Sophomore Nathaniel Redden (80th, 33:50.1) kept the Eagle PR times coming, as did sophomore Ian Johnson (158th, 35:28.7), and rounding out the Eagle men's contingent were sophomores Nick Reimund (143rd, 35:00.3), Duvan Bautista-Catalan (173rd, 36:13.7) and Connor Ingram (185th, 36:46.9).

On the women's side, Ashland placed 20th in the 29-team field with 527 team points – losing a 19th-place tiebreaker with Illinois-Springfield. GVSU won with 26 team points, followed by Hillsdale (104) and Michigan Tech (116).

Senior Emily Schumaker was the AU women's pacesetter with a 61st-place finish in 23:37.6, while freshman Abby Moser ended in 72nd place in a collegiate 6K PR of 23:46.6.

The Ashland women's contingent also included junior Johannah Stefanek (122nd, 24:52.8), junior Haylee Zigan (131st, 25:04.0), sophomore Lexi Butterbaugh (141st, 25:22.4), freshman Destini Oler (144th, 25:23.7), sophomore Maureen McKeown (152nd, 25:30.6) and sophomore Tracy Morgan (154th, 25:33.5).
