Eagle Men, Women 5th In Division At All-Ohio Meet

With most of the state of Ohio's collegiate cross country teams in attendance, Ashland University's men and women competed at the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville on Saturday (Sept. 28) afternoon.

In the men's 8K race on Saturday, Ashland finished fifth in the NCAA Division II/NAIA division with 124 team points. Walsh (47) and Malone (69) finished 1-2.

As has been the case all season, senior Steven Kapes led the Eagle charge, placing 30th individually among all runners in all divisions in 26:13.6. And once again, senior Kyle Shively was Ashland's No. 2 runner, finishing 51st in 26:46.5, while junior Tyler Sievert was 55th in 26:50.5.

Rounding out AU's top seven on the men's side were juniors Ian Johnson (91st, 27:36.3), Connor Ingram (114th, 27:53.6) and Nick Reimund (115th, 27:57.1), and sophomore Jake Hall (157th, 28:44.3).

The women's 6K race also saw Ashland take fifth in the D-II/NAIA division with 154 points. Walsh (40) and Malone (47) once again took the top two team spots.

Sophomore Abby Moser returned to the lineup and was the Eagles' No. 1 runner, taking 57th place among all runners in all divisions in 23:54.0, while senior Johannah Stefanek was 64th in 24:00.5.

Ashland's top seven on the women's side were rounded out by junior Tracy Morgan (145th, 25:42.1), freshman Hannah Ohman (153rd, 25:56.7), senior Haylee Zigan (160th, 26:00.7), freshman Emma Hinkle (181st, 26:38.2), and junior Makayla Wagner (202nd, 27:23.9).

The Eagle men and women will finish the regular season on Oct. 11 at 5:15 p.m. at Wilmington's JennaStrong Fall Classic.
