Men's Basketball Receives NABC Team Academic Excellence Award

The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has recognized the Ashland University men's basketball program as a recipient of a 2013-14 Team Academic Excellence Award.

The award goes to the Eagles for their commitment on the court as well as in the classroom. The men's program was one of 125 colleges and universities recognized for obtaining a cumulative team grade point average of 3.0 or better.

In order to qualify for the NABC award an institution must be NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA Division I or II. The team must then count the grade point averages of all student-athletes who competed in the 2013-14 season.

This is only the second year the NABC has handed out the academic excellence award. Ashland has received the award both years. Last year Ashland was one of 103 colleges and universities recognized.

The Eagles had a cumulative GPA of 3.19. For the spring, 2014 semester, the Eagles had a 3.23 GPA.

AU's head coach is John Ellenwood.
