Thomas, Davis Earn GLIAC Preseason Honors; Men Picked Fifth In South

Senior guard DaWuan Thomas and sophomore forward Wendell Davis were chosen as second-team selections in the South Division on the 2014-15 All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Preseason Teams, released Wednesday (Oct. 29) afternoon.

Thomas averaged 8.9 points, 2.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game in 2013-14, and started all 24 games in which he played. Davis is AU's top returning scorer from a season ago at 10.7 points per game. He shot 59.6 percent from the field (sixth-best in the GLIAC) and averaged 4.5 rebounds a contest as a freshman.

Ashland was picked to finish in fifth place in the GLIAC South in the 2014-15 GLIAC Men's Basketball Preseason Poll. The Eagles received 69 points, behind Findlay (125 points, 13 first-place votes), Walsh (114, three first-place votes), Wayne State (90) and Malone (79).

In the North Division, Michigan Tech was tapped to win the crown, finishing with 121 points and 10 first-place votes. Grand Valley State was next with 100 points and two first-place votes, followed by Lake Superior State (95, three first-place votes).

Michigan Tech senior guard Ben Stelzer (first in the GLIAC in three-pointers with 120, ninth at 17.8 points per game last season) was named Preseason GLIAC Men's Player of the Year.
