Eagles’ Davis Earns First GLIAC South Division Honor Of Season

Ashland University sophomore forward Wendell Davis is the first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the 2014-15 season.

Davis led the Eagles in scoring in both wins over the weekend at the Third Annual Cedarville University Don Callan Classic – a 77-44 victory over Alderson Broaddus and a 75-60 triumph over Cedarville. He scored 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field and a 5-of-5 effort from the free-throw line against Alderson Broaddus, then posted a career-high 25 points on 9-of-13 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the foul line against Cedarville.

For the week, Davis scored 40 points, grabbed eight rebounds, shot 63.6 percent from the field and hit 92.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Prior to the start of the season, Davis was chosen as a second-team selection in the South Division on the 2014-15 All-GLIAC Men's Basketball Preseason Teams. He is AU's top returning scorer from a season ago at 10.7 points per game. Davis shot 59.6 percent from the field (sixth-best in the GLIAC) and averaged 4.5 rebounds a contest as a freshman.
